Jul 29, 2011 | Redwood Shores, CA

Good Technology, the leader in secure multiplatform enterprise mobility, today announced the appointment of Dr. Nicko van Someren as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), effective immediately. Van Someren will report to King Lee, President and CEO of the company. Van Someren has more than 20 years of experience in security, software and hardware product development.

Van Someren will provide critical insight and experience that enhances the company's technology leadership and market share gains in the mobile security and mobile device management (MDM) markets. He will be responsible for driving long-term mobile security strategy and vision to anticipate market direction as well as customer and partner needs. In collaboration with the company's engineering, marketing, and strategy teams, van Someren will chart the future technology direction of the company to further develop its products and services and optimize Good’s enterprise-grade mobile security to support its growing base of enterprise customers.

"Over the last 12 months, Good Technology has posted major share gains in Fortune 100 companies," said King Lee, President and CEO, Good Technology. "With Nicko's strong background in enterprise security, we're now in a position to further expand our market presence and help even more enterprise and government customers secure a multitude of mobile devices with our military-grade security software."

"Good Technology holds a commanding position at the intersection between security and mobility, with substantial differentiation and huge potential for growth,” said Dr. Nicko van Someren, CTO, Good Technology. "Mobile devices are outpacing PCs in the work place and as a result, organizations need to ensure that every device is protected from possible interruptions, data theft, and regulatory compliance headaches. Good Technology is the only company that provides the military-grade security, management and control tools that enterprise customers need to keep up with this massive growth. I plan to expand upon this competitive advantage and enable the company to make significant inroads in an enterprise mobility market that is forecast to reach 983 million smartphones by 2015."

Dr. van Someren has extensive experience in the security industry. Most recently, he served as Chief Security Architect at Juniper Networks, responsible for leading the technology and design direction for the company’s Network Security products, as well as promoting Juniper's security solutions to industry and government sectors.

Prior to joining Juniper, Dr. van Someren was founder and CTO of the security technology company nCipher Plc. (acquired by Thales in 2008) where he led the research team and directed the technical development. He was also a founder and CTO of ANT Plc, a leading supplier of embedded network software for digital media devices.

Van Someren holds a doctorate and First Class degree in computer science from Cambridge University in the UK. He is a fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the British Computer Society.
