Good Technology™, the leader in secure enterprise mobility, today announced that Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) has deployed Good for Enterprise™ (GFE), the company’s enterprise mobility management solution, and the Good Dynamics® platform. GFE will be used to enable employees to securely access a range of collaboration and productivity applications including email, calendar, contacts, intranet, SharePoint access and document viewing and editing.

“Managing risk was a key driver for implementing Good for Enterprise, while also providing secure mobile productivity capability,” commented Jamie O’Donnell, Manager Telecommunication Services at Bank of New Zealand. “As smartphones and apps become more evolved and enabled, the potential increases for our staff to unwittingly leak corporate information that we had no auditable visibility of.”

Jamie O’Donnell added, “We wanted our application suite to be reflective of the way staff are using mobile devices and their desire to be effective while out and about. Smartphones tend to be more for content viewing, communication and collaboration, whereas tablets are increasingly being used as productivity tools, including content creation and editing.”

Companies Save Money, Increase Efficiency with Bring Your Own Device Programs: In 2012, enterprises should be prepared to secure new smartphones & tablets that employees receive this holiday season

Good Technology, the leading provider of secure and managed enterprise mobility for iPhone®, iPad™, Android™ and other leading smartphone platforms, today released new data detailing a rise in “bring your own device” (BYOD) programs globally, across a wide array of industries. The full report can be found here.

The rise in popularity and proliferation of smartphones and tablets has driven the "Consumerization of IT" wherein employees are requesting use of their personal, mobile devices for professional functions. As a result, IT departments are developing policies to allow employees to use their own devices to access confidential enterprise data and information. Good Technology surveyed its clients to determine how they adapt policies in support of employee mobility.

Key findings:

Highly Regulated Industries Embrace BYOD: Large companies from the finance/insurance and healthcare industries dominate the overall BYOD picture, with retail/wholesale and government less likely to support BYOD.

Big Companies Get BYOD: 80 percent of those supporting BYOD have over 2,000 employees; 60 percent have over 5,000 employees; and 35 percent have over 10,000 employees.

Employees Are Willing to Pay for Personal Choice: 50 percent of companies with BYOD models are requiring employees to cover all costs, and their users are taking them up on the offer; 45 percent provide their employees with a stipend or "expense back" options to help subsidize the cost of their mobile device or service plan.

Offering BYOD Stipend Increases: Companies that offer BYOD stipends have the highest rate of employees using mobile devices when compared to companies that require employees cover all BYOD costs themselves, or allow for expense-back of service plan costs, but limit to users with management pre-approval.

BYOD Goes Global: Many believe that BYOD "doesn't work" outside U.S. due privacy laws or greater exposure to highly variable roaming costs. Our data clearly shows otherwise – with nearly half (44.9 percent) of respondents indicating they are deploying BYOD programs in multiple countries.

A recent Forrester Research report underscores some of the benefits of a BYOD model saying, "For IT professionals, there is a silver lining in all this employee choice and power: you can outsource the cost of devices, monthly service, and even some applications to employees. This is easy to see in the way employees are willing to share or shoulder the cost of smartphones and monthly plans. But it's not a stretch to realize that for any dual-use device or service, your employees might help."1

"Just as we saw last year, smartphones and tablets will be popular gifts this Holiday Season, and come January employees will bring these devices to work in droves," said John Herrema, SVP of Corporate Strategy at Good Technology. "The great news is that companies deploying Good can now confidently embrace this BYOD trend, boost employee productivity and satisfaction, reduce their overall mobility spending, and still satisfy even the most stringent security and compliance requirements."

About Good
Good Technology combines award-winning enterprise-grade mobile security and control with an exceptional user experience, allowing enterprise and government employees to connect, communicate, and collaborate on their devices of choice. Recognized by the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) as the Best Mobile Operations Management Solution in 2011, Good opens new possibilities for maximizing business and personal productivity by providing secure, easy-to-use, and instant mobile access to data, applications and services on hundreds of mobile devices.
Good Technology and ActivIdentity Partner to Secure Enterprise and Government Mobility Solutions for iOS and Android

Good Technology and ActivIdentity Corporation, part of HID Global, today announced a strategic partnership to deliver an array of new government-strength, two-factor mobile authentication and credentialing solutions for the iOS and Android platforms. The new solutions will couple the existing government-grade security capabilities of Good for Enterprise™ and Good for Government™ with the strong authentication technology of the ActivIdentity ActivClient Mobile middleware to make it easier for Federal employees and the companies that support them to gain access to pertinent applications using their mobile device while maintaining necessary security levels set forth by their Information Assurance (IA) personnel.

"Mobile device management and authentication solutions are synergistic because they enable the distribution of credentials, which is critical for secure access to enterprise services like email," says Mark Diodati, research vice president, Gartner.

Increasingly, enterprises and government agencies must comply with standards such as the DoD Directive 8100.2 and the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12, or HSPD-12, that require strong, two-factor authentication and credentialing solutions to gain access to government networks. Until now, smartphones and tablets were not able to readily achieve this level of security, thus greatly limiting their productivity-enhancing potential.

Good Technology and ActivIdentity are working together to mobilize smart cards and the underlying secure element technology. This solution enables email and document encryption, cryptographic signing of emails and forms, and extends public key infrastructure (PKI) authentication tools to custom applications previously not allowed on highly popular mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.

"The mobility of today's workforce provides more accessibility from anywhere, and at, anytime, however, this creates security gaps and enterprise management challenges," said Jerome Becquart, vice president and general manager, ActivIdentity, part of HID Global. "This partnership will enable customers to access all of their enterprise resources from anywhere in the world without compromising security."

The strong, multi-factor authentication capabilities of the new solutions will allow employees to prove and trust identities accessing resources on their networks using existing CAC/PIV smart card technology. Employees will also be able to leverage the same certified smart card chip environment inside a Secure Element Micro SD or Embedded Secure Element chip on their mobile device loaded with a certified PIV Applet (data structure, functionality, security model).

Enterprise and Government Agencies can now leverage the same security principles that a smart card provides (e.g. Hardware Protection and Tamper Resistance) in order to provide Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (SMIME) support and the highest levels of authentication and security. Early this year, ActivIdentity also announced a solution for storing PKI credentials on Micro SD in smart phones.

"Supporting a mobile and wireless workforce is becoming an increasingly critical, yet daunting task for many corporations and governments today," said Michael Mahan, senior vice president of special markets, Good Technology. "We are excited to work with ActivIdentity and leverage their industry-leading identity assurance components and smart card experience to create a set of solutions that will be the new benchmark for mobile platform security, assuring customers that their networks and data are protected."

Visit ActivIdentity to learn more about our solutions at our booth – Hall 3, Stand F002 – at the CARTES & IDentification 2011 show taking place November 15-17 in Paris, France. The first solutions featuring the new security capabilities are projected to be available in the first half of 2012.

About Good
Good Technology combines award-winning enterprise-grade mobile security and control with an exceptional user experience, allowing enterprise and government employees to connect, communicate, and collaborate on their devices of choice. The business’s strong authentication and smart card solutions are relied upon by more agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense, than any other provider, and has issued more than 100 million credentials to enterprise, government and commerce customers. Now Good's customers, including 48 of the Fortune 100, will benefit from enhanced device, application and cost management features - including the ability to support volume purchasing and deployment of App Store apps - as well as stronger security.

"With iOS 5, Apple has added new device and application management features that make it easier for CIOs to embrace devices like iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to make them a critical part of their mobile applications strategy," said John Herrema, SVP of Corporate Strategy at Good Technology.
Good Enhances Application Distribution and Mobile Device Management Features for Good for Enterprise

Good Technology, the leader in secure multiplatform enterprise mobility, today announced enhanced Enterprise Application Distribution and Mobile Device Management (MDM) support for Apple® iPhone®, iPod Touch®, iPad™, and Android™-enabled devices in the company's flagship Good for Enterprise product. These enhanced features, available for iOS 4 and Android 2.2 and higher, will provide Good's customers with even more options to secure and manage the distribution of their most mission-critical enterprise applications, data, and documents.

"In the last six months alone, we’ve seen over 1,500 of our enterprise customers deploy new tablets like the iPad, iPad2, Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab," said John Herrema, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Good Technology. "In many cases, these tablets are being purchased by the company itself and explicitly targeted for enterprise apps, such as Sales Force Automation and Point-of-Sale apps, and in support of 'paperless office' green initiatives. This is making the secure and managed distribution of internally developed apps and corporate documents more important than ever."

Enterprise Application Distribution
With the rapid emergence of tablets based on the iOS and Android platforms, the ability to securely manage and distribute enterprise apps is more important than ever. With Good for Enterprise's enhanced app distribution and management features for iOS and Android, IT departments can now extend these capabilities to the most popular tablet and smartphone platforms. Mobile users can view, download, and receive updates to deployed enterprise apps.

Mobile Device Management
Good Technology has enhanced its current Mobile Device Management features to offer additional iOS 4 management features, and added support for Android 2.2 and higher. Combined with Good Mobile Messaging and Good Mobile Access, this will enable IT to easily support both Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and company-owned device programs with a single, secure solution for messaging, Intranet access, and enterprise app distribution that doesn’t require the deployment of a separate MDM platform or complex mobile VPN infrastructure.

"Gartner recently positioned Good in the 'Leader' category in its Mobile Device Management Software Magic Quadrant —because we are able to secure and manage virtually all of the devices employees most want to use for both work and play," said Dimitri Volkmann, vice president of products and markets at Good Technology. "These enhancements further strengthen our leading position in mobile security and device management."

The Enterprise Application Distribution and MDM features for iOS and Android 2.2 and higher are available at no additional charge to all Good for Enterprise customers with a valid support and maintenance agreement.

Use of the Good for Enterprise – iOS and Good for Enterprise – Android app requires a Good for Enterprise server and client access license (CAL). Mobile users should contact their IT administrator for a username and password. The Good for Enterprise application will not operate without the necessary back-end software.

About Good Technology
Good Technology combines award-winning enterprise-grade mobile security and control with an exceptional user experience, allowing enterprise and government employees to connect, communicate, and collaborate on their devices of choice.
Good Technology Positioned in Leaders Quadrant of Leading Analyst Firm's Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Wireless E-Mail

Good Technology, the leading provider of secure and managed enterprise mobility for iPhone®, iPad™, Android™ and other leading smartphone platforms, today announced its positioning by Gartner as a Leader in its "Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Wireless Email Market" report 1. Good Technology is recognized for its ability to execute and completeness of vision.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant is a graphical representation of a marketplace at and for a specific time period. It depicts Gartner's analysis of how certain vendors measure against criteria for that marketplace, as defined by Gartner. According to Gartner's "Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Wireless Email Market" report, "vendors classified as Leaders have seen continuous growth in their installed bases of wireless email gateways and subscribers. They are the subjects of most inquiries from Gartner clients about wireless email product strategy and selection. Leaders have established positions in several areas of technology, and pursue innovation in areas related to wireless email product features and services. They are good at communicating the value of their offerings, have a wide geographical presence, and have extensive plans for sales and distribution. Comments from clients must point to a high degree of satisfaction with the level of support provided, and to operational excellence."

According to a recent customer survey conducted by Good Technology, 72 percent of respondents were already formally supporting "bring your own device" (BYOD) programs, with another 19 percent indicating that they were either planning to support within the next 6-12 months or were considering, but did not have a specific timeframe for support. The survey findings also indicate that large-to-very-large enterprises dominate the current BYOD landscape, with 81 percent of respondents having more than 2,000 employees, nearly 60 percent having more than 5,000 employees, and 35 percent having more than 10,000 employees. These large to very large organizations came mostly from the financial services and healthcare industries—two information-driven sectors that face complex regulatory, security, and compliance requirement that make data security is paramount.

"We are thrilled to be recognized by Gartner as a Leader in the Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Wireless E-Mail Market,"2 said John Herrema, Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy, Good Technology. "Coupled with our placement in the 2011 in the Magic Quadrant for Mobile Device Management, Good Technology is recognized as a leader in both of these important enterprise mobility Magic Quadrants. Combined with our penetration of nearly half the Fortune 100, we believe this accomplishment affirms Good's unique ability to enable broad BYOD adoption by even the largest, most security conscious, and highly regulated enterprises. Only Good provides the true separation of personal and corporate data that allows enterprises to meet their security, data loss prevention and compliance requirements without affecting the productivity, personal user experience, or privacy of their employees."

About the Magic Quadrant
Gartner does not endorse any vendor, product or service depicted in its research publications, and does not advise technology users to select only those vendors with the highest ratings.
Good Technology Collaborates with Dell and Other Partners to Deliver New Military Grade Secure Android Devices for U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Agencies

Good Technology, the leader in secure multiplatform enterprise mobility, today announced that the first secure Android OS-based platform has been certified by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), which will allow Good for Government™ mobile device management and data loss prevention capabilities to be used on the Global Information Grid (GIG). Using the new solution ("Secure Android"), U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) personnel will be able to sign, encrypt/decrypt e-mail, utilize a secure partition on the Android device for business applications, and securely access Intranet-based content anytime, from anywhere. This is the first STIG-certified Android OS solution that meets the requirements set forth by DoD Directive 8100.2, which mandates use of secure, multipurpose internet mail extension (S/MIME) in conjunction with a DoD common access card (CAC) and interoperability with the Department of Defense Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). The Secure Android OS was first approved for use on government networks with Dell Streak 5 devices. As part of today's announcement, Good Technology also introduced its Secure Android Partner Program, a joint development initiative targeted at working with device makers interested in leveraging Good's expertise in developing STIG compliant solutions.

Good Technology initially worked with Dell to augment the security framework contained within Android and deploy it on Streak 5 devices. The secure Android platform leverages Good for Government technology to provide secure access to information stored within a command's enclave and usually only accessed with desktops/laptops, such as command and control programs, as well as access to a number of powerful business applications on Dell devices that allows members of the military to operate with desktop-like capabilities in a protected mobile environment. Employees can also access critical agency resources behind the firewall, such as intranets or other web-enabled applications, through an integrated secure browser.

"The world of smartphones, tablets and mobile devices is evolving rapidly and changing the way DoD agencies think about everything from telework to continuity of operations (COOP) as well as information assurance. Having worked closely with the DoD for the past five years, we recognized there was a need to close the gap between what today's DoD personnel were able to perform utilizing currently approved mobility platforms and what they wanted to do," said Chris Roberts, vice president of public sector at Good Technology. "We're proud to be working with Dell, Biometric Associates, LP and other partners to provide a secure way for military personnel to benefit from the latest mobile technology while providing DoD officials with the peace of mind of knowing that sensitive government data is protected."

Using Good for Government's mobility suite, the new solution will pass and manage sensitive data from Microsoft Exchange servers located in DoD data centers via Good's email application to end-point Android devices wirelessly, using a FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic module with AES encryption to ensure data protection for data-at-rest as well as data-in-transit. Good's patented container-based technology prevents data leakage to non-secure applications. The DoD can use Good's Web-based management console to manage Dell Android devices and all other device platforms on the network simultaneously. The management console also allows administrators to block access from potentially compromised devices that may have been rooted by either the end user or a malicious attacker as well as to remotely wipe lost, stolen or retired smartphones to mitigate potential data leakage.

"We recognized the importance of providing personnel with mobile access to information two years ago when we kicked-off the Connecting Soldiers to Digital Applications project for smartphones. As of now, my branch has created about 75 apps—a third of which are on Android," said Lt. Col. Gregory Motes, chief of the Army's newly created Mobile Applications Branch at Fort Gordon, Ga. "Until now, troops have had no way to access official Army apps, but with certification for use of the Android OS with Good Technology on Dell's Streak 5, we are one step closer to providing our troops with greater mobility and improved, real-time access to information anytime, anywhere."

Good Technology Secure Android Partner Program
Good Technology partnered with Dell to develop the first iteration of the Secure Android OS. The new solution also incorporates Biometric Associates, LP baiMobile® technology to permit network or client applications residing on the Android device to access the credentials stored on a smart card to perform functions such as digitally signing and decrypting emails, and authenticating to secure web sites and network servers. In addition, developers can leverage the security features of this new solution by integrating BAL's baiMobile® middleware libraries, device drivers and APIs that will allow them to build smart card-enabled applications. Moving forward, Good Technology will be engaging with other device manufacturers interested in creating STIG-certified offerings through its Secure Android Partner Program. The program will provide device manufacturing partners with API specification to comply with STIG guidance, integration of each partners' API with the Good for Government management console, and CAC reader integration in partnership with BAI Certification services. These tools will make their solutions eligible for STIG approval and thus authorized for use within the DoD.

"We're proud to enable the ever-increasing demands on our men and women in uniform to operate outside of office environments with powerful yet secure mobile solutions," said Ian Haynes, client and mobility brand manager, Dell Federal. "At Dell, we believe that what's behind the device is what truly matters – especially for government customers, and with the help of Good Technology, we're now able to bring a solution powered by the flexible Android operating system."

The new Secure Android OS is immediately available for pilot programs on Dell Streak 5 devices provided by Dell and select government resellers including Four Points and Steel Cloud.
Android Smartphones Pick up Steam as Financial Sector and iPads Lead Activations: Detailed in Good Technology's Q3 2011 Data Report

Good Technology, the leading provider of secure and managed enterprise mobility for iPhone®, iPad™, Android™ and other leading smartphone platforms, today released its quarterly data report detailing the changing landscape of IT and mobile enterprise technology. The full report, which looks at calendar Q3, 2011, can be downloaded here.

In the third quarter of 2011, Apple devices held onto their lead in the enterprise deployments, while Android smartphones gained steady ground in terms of activation volume among the thousands of enterprise and public sector Good Technology counts as customers.

"This quarter, we saw Android smartphones gain in percentage of total activations," said John Herrema, SVP of Corporate Strategy at Good Technology. "This is likely due to consumers holding back purchases of new iPhones in anticipation of Apple's latest release (the iPhone 4S)—as our reports indicate, consumers are setting the agenda for enterprise mobility."

Herrema continued, "Looking forward to Q4, 2011, we expect to see the iPhone 4S to be the catalyst for an Apple rally."

Good Technology ran preliminary numbers on just the opening weekend of the iPhone 4S' availability (October 14-16, 2011) and found a 25% increase in activations compared to the 3Q daily average for the iPhone 4.

Some more key findings:

While Android continues to gain market share overall, Good's enterprise end users are showing clear preference for Apple products

Among the top 10 industry verticals, financial services continued to see the highest level of iPad activation, accounting for 46 percent for the quarter—more than tripling the amount of activation in any other industry

The iPad and iPad2 represent over 96 percent of total tablet activations

Android tablets increased slightly to 4 percent of overall tablet activations for the quarter

Android smartphones represented nearly 39 percent of all smartphone (non tablet) activations compared to iPhone's 61 percent, despite Android's overall market share growth

iOS devices (iPhone, iPad and variants), accounted for over 70 percent of activations in Q3

Good Technology Introduces Good Dynamics™ – The Most Comprehensive Security Platform for Mobile Application Development

Good Technology, the leader in secure multiplatform enterprise mobility, today announced the release of Good Dynamics, a new security platform for mobile application development targeting developers of both enterprise and consumer applications. The massive adoption of tablets and smartphones has led to an explosion in iOS and Android app development. With this release, Good Technology extends the world-class security capabilities of its popular Good for Enterprise solution to the developers of mobile applications for these popular devices – ensuring all Good Dynamics-supported applications are built securely, quickly and cost effectively, and with the flexibility to deploy across multiple platforms.

Beginning today, current Good for Enterprise customers and new independent software vendors (ISVs) and system integrators (SIs) can register to join the Good Dynamics Developer Network program, which includes direct development access to the Good Dynamics SDK and NOC infrastructure, resources, and customer support they need to build and manage secure mobile applications.

"The pace and pressure that developers have been under to build apps as quickly as possible has made security an after-thought for many corporations. As a result, a lot of potentially great apps don’t pass the security test and never make it out the door," said Nicko van Someren, CTO of Good Technology. "Our enterprise customers have an urgent need to implement CRM, banking, expense or workflow management and various other applications for their employees. Now with Good Dynamics, developers can make use of our world-class encryption, authentication, and connectivity technology, leaving them free to concentrate on building apps to address their business needs."

Good is the leader in secure enterprise mobility with large deployments by enterprise customers including more than 50 of the Fortune 100. Partners in the Good Dynamics Early Access Program include Aji, Accellion, Box, GroupLogic, MeLLmo, Pyxis Mobile, Quickoffice and Unisys, as well as a number of Good’s enterprise customers in the financial services, government, healthcare, manufacturing and high tech sectors.

"Good Dynamics is the holy grail of security for applications and we are excited to be the first mobile enterprise application platform (MEAP) to integrate Good Dynamics into our offering," said Todd Christy, CTO of Pyxis Mobile. "We've enhanced the Pyxis mobile app development platform with Good Dynamics to empower our customers to develop apps with a whole new level of secure connectivity, storage and centralized management. Together, we are allowing global corporations to build, deploy, and manage their mobile apps with the most comprehensive and secure platform available on the market."

Good Dynamics is easy to implement. Developers simply plug Good Dynamics' code libraries into their applications to create a secure “container” around the application and all of the data it holds and accesses. Good Technology maintains the Network Operating Center (NOC) infrastructure, resources and support staff, which eliminates the need for customers to add systems, space, and people. Unlike other approaches that use VPN solutions, which open access to a company’s corporate network, Good Dynamics secures applications and data end-to-end. In the event of a security breach, businesses can simply kill the Good Dynamics-enabled application without compromising music, photos, and other personal data present on the mobile device.

"Unisys custom mobile applications provide a multi-faceted security solution using Good Dynamics. By integrating Good Dynamics with our mobile applications, Unisys was able to enforce secure device policy, integrate with Active Directory, and provide secure data transmission and storage," said Kurt Gerstner, VP of Application Modernization Center of Excellence for Unisys. "Unisys's experience in modifying our mobile applications to run in Good Dynamics' secure container can help clients complete securing their mobile apps in weeks."
