App-based or Server-based Services

App-based services are provided by Good-secured apps running on the device. Server-based services are provided by an app server, which may reside behind the enterprise firewall or in the cloud. With server-based services, enterprises can expose common enterprise services (e.g., calendaring, printing, directory services, etc.) or services from legacy enterprise applications and use them in mobile apps. Apps can consume app-based services, server-based services, or both, to provide users with the ability initiate complete workflows from within one app. This reduces the inconvenience of constant app switching that users often encounter with standard app-to-app “open-in.”

Share More Than Just Documents

In addition to secure sharing of data (e.g., a document, an image), the Good Dynamics Shared Services Framework enables exchange of metadata, which can be used to carry parameters when invoking a Good Dynamics Service. For example, an app could call the “save edited file” service published by Good Share in order to write an edited file to a SharePoint server. When calling that service, the app would provide both the file and metadata that contains the user’s SharePoint credentials and destination path. This allows the file to be written to the SharePoint server behind the network firewall without requiring the user to authenticate into another app.

No Security Expertise Required

Security inherited from the Good Dynamics Secure Mobility Platform ensures that developers don’t have to worry about building complex cryptography and enterprise compliance into their apps. An SSL tunnel is used for the exchange of data between the service provider and service consumer.  That data is additionally secured with FIPS-validated encryption. The Veracode for Good app assessment provides enterprises with the assurance that that the highest levels of security are maintained for app services published on the Good Developer Network.
